Saturday the Seventh

Oh, but it has been a busy week, it HAS! We had a big day OFF to "remember" the new year on Monday, then Hubby went back to work Tuesday for the first time since before Christmas, and Wednesday was a THIRTEENTH birthday and the start of piano lessons for one big girl of the family. Thursday was a friend-day, just a day of fun to catch up and refresh our spirits a bit with fun companions, and Friday was the day of preparations for TODAY: the PARTY.

Now, thirteenth birthdays take a little bit of doing for, don't you think? She's "officially a teen-ager," whatever that MEANS, and so we fuss and fret a bit. Add it to the week after Christmas(she has had the tree up for EVERY birthday but one, I think!), and it makes for a bit of loose pulling-together for Mom who has not had a minute to really think things THROUGH yet.

We did small. Come to think of it we had exactly FOURTEEN people come through today, One to Grow On, in a pleasant way! :)

We had Cake. From Target. It was surprisingly good! Moist, rich, not too sweet, not too greasy. VERY good for a non-Whole Foods-storebought cake!

She wanted fondue. Chocolate.(Her "theme" this year was polka dots and chocolate.)
With fruit.
I think it turned out well!
(Imagine a platter of strawberries, fresh pineapple, kiwi, and grapes with chocolate sauce here!)

We also had gumbo with sausage, chicken and shrimp. It was apparently a HIT, and if I do say so myself, it WAS yummy-o!
(The birthday girl took pictures before the party started, which is why there aren't the usual "room" pics.)
She got gifts(of course.)

Managed to blow the candles out in ONE puff(all those hours of singing practice have paid off?)!

Was very appreciative of all the effort.

I think the year has gotten off to a good start!
Happy birthday, sweet girl!

And a HAPPY Saturday to YOU, dear friend!
